What is the SOC?

The Student Organizations Council (SOC) is the governing body of all student organizations on campus. The SOC serves these organizations through funding and coordinating activities to promote the academic, social and athletic interests of the students at FIU’s Biscayne Bay Campus and strives to build a stronger sense of community on campus.

Why Should I Start My Own Club?

A student organization may be created for any purpose that will enhance the educational mission of the institution.  Any person enrolled as a student may form a student organization.  Organizations include, but are not limited to: interest groups; student governing bodies; college or departmental groups; social and professional fraternities or sororities; residence hall councils; and honorary associations.

Registered student organizations are granted the privilege to use campus facilities, sponsor speakers, raise funds, recruit new members and receive funding from the Student Organizations Council. Registered organizations are also given the opportunity to participate in SOC club fairs and SOC members have the opportunity to participate in SOC sponsored leadership workshops.

Where Do I Begin?

There will be many opportunities for you to become involved with the SOC during the year. Check our Calendar of Events page for our upcoming events, meetings, & deadlines.  From the monthly general meetings to the club fairs, we hope that you will take an active role.  Remember – This is YOUR Organization!
